Job Title: Nurse Practitioner 

Job Overview:  

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) delivers high-quality, patient-centered care by assessing, diagnosing, and managing a wide range of health conditions across various settings. NPs work collaboratively with healthcare teams to improve patient outcomes and promote health education. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Patient Assessment: Conduct comprehensive health assessments, including physical examinations and health history reviews.
  • Diagnosis and Management: Diagnose acute and chronic conditions, develop treatment plans, and prescribe medications in accordance with your provincial regulations.
  • Collaboration: Work with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.

Qualifications:

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Physician to join our team in providing high-quality, patient-centered care for veterans in Canada. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to understanding and addressing the unique medical needs of veterans, offering both primary and specialized care. This position requires a physician who is committed to supporting veterans with their physical, mental, and emotional health, while working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional healthcare. 
You will provide in-home care ensuring safety and professionalism in every interaction. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Patient Care: Provide comprehensive medical services, including primary care, preventive health screenings, chronic disease management, and treatment of acute illnesses and injuries to veterans. 
  • Medical Assessment: Conduct comprehensive health assessments, including physical examinations, review of medical history, and ordering/interpretation of diagnostic tests to develop personalized treatment plans. 
  • Veteran-Specific Care: Treat and manage conditions that are common among veterans, including PTSD, depression, traumatic brain injury (TBI), military-related musculoskeletal injuries, and substance use disorders. 
  • Collaborative Care: Work closely with other healthcare providers, including specialists, mental health professionals, nurses, and social workers, to deliver holistic care tailored to veterans’ individual needs. 
  • Mental Health Support: Provide care for veterans dealing with mental health conditions such as PTSD, depression, and anxiety, and collaborate with psychologists, counselors, and psychiatrists for comprehensive mental health care. 
  • Patient Education: Offer guidance on health maintenance, disease prevention, lifestyle changes, and treatment plans, ensuring patients are empowered to make informed decisions about their health. 
  • Advocacy and Support: Advocate for veterans’ health and well-being by connecting them with relevant community resources, VA programs, and government services, including rehabilitation and compensation claims. 
  • Clinical Documentation: Maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date electronic medical records (EMR) in accordance with your local Provincial Health regulations and organizational policies. 
  • Continuing Medical Education: Pursue ongoing professional development and stay current with medical advances, particularly those relating to veteran health. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Education: Medical degree (MD or equivalent) from an accredited institution. 
  • Licensure: Active registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons in your Province of practice. 
  • Experience: 2 years of clinical experience in primary care or a related field (preferred). Experience in veterans’ health or public health is an asset. 
  • Skills: 
  • Strong clinical skills and the ability to diagnose and manage a wide variety of health conditions. 
  • Sensitivity to the unique needs of veterans and the ability to address both physical and mental health issues. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team. 
  • Knowledge of British Columbia’s healthcare system, including provincial health insurance (MSP) and healthcare resources for veterans. 
  • Ability to manage complex, multi-disciplinary care needs. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working with military veterans or understanding of military health issues. 
  • Knowledge of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury (TBI), substance use disorders, and other common issues faced by veterans. 
  • Bilingual (English/French) language skills are an asset. 
  • Familiarity with the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and the role of Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) in providing care and support to veterans.

  • Education and Counseling: Provide nutrition education and counseling to clients, helping them understand dietary choices and lifestyle changes.
  • Collaboration: Work with healthcare professionals (e.g., physicians, nurses, social workers) to coordinate comprehensive care for patients.

    • Research and Evidence-Based Practice: Stay updated on current nutrition research and integrate evidence-based practices into client care. 
  • Community Outreach: Participate in community health programs and workshops to promote healthy eating and nutritional education. 
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records and documentation in compliance with professional standards and regulations.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field.
  • Completion of an accredited dietetic internship.
  • Registered with the College of Dietitians of the province which you practice.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
